Stevens Park Summer Movie Series

Friday, July 12th, 2019

Through the information being gathered through Kershaw Heart & Soul the voice that was heard from the community is that they wanted more youth activities.  The Town of Kershaw presented the first Free Family Friendly Summer Movie Series in Stevens Park at the outdoor amphitheater.  Over 150 people came out with their stadium cusions, chairs pizza and coolers.  Many participated in the pre-movie activities with Frisbee and glow-bracelets being given out.  First Baptist Youth Group hosted the $1 Concession Stand where making a profit was not priority but providing food and drink at a super family friendly cost.  KARE donated items that were part of a free raffle to those that volunteered their zip code and age.  A special 'thank you' goes out to Team Church and volunteer Steve Miller who provided the project and screen in addition to the Whaley Team who orchestrated the pre-movie activities and announcements.

The next movie will be held on Friday, July 12th at 8:30 p.m.

There were over 17 participants last Saturday at the 2nd cruise-in for the Gold Mine Cruisers before the weather rolled through and had everyone heading home.  Typically there is music and each participant of the cruise-in gets a meal ticket – couldn’t think of a better way to spend a Saturday evening!  Gold Mine Cruiser’s moto is “if you like it, bring it” – see you next month Saturday, July 13th!

Thank you to Pamela Hunter, Manager at Foxwood Apts, for organizing the morning event for National Night Out and inviting the Kershaw Fire Department - Lancaster County Station 11, Lancaster County Sheriff's Department & Pastor Hancock to come out and talk to the community.  Pamela hosted a delicious hot dog meal for everyone while Dayna Singleton, Community Heart & Soul Coordinator for the Town of Kershaw, talked to residents about what matters most to them living here in Kershaw.

The morning of Tuesday, April 2nd, 2019, it was snowing at Stevens Park.

The day before the Town had posted on social media that the National Weather Service had issued an advisory that there was a possibility of a burst of moderate to heavy wet snow that may occur in the Midlands from the coastal storm that was developing early Tuesday morning.  Everyone thought it was an April Fool's joke - but it wasn't.

The Team Church Family invited the community to join them when they set out caroling last Sunday evening spreading joy throughout the community.  Team Church is hoping that this will be an annual event and will grow even bigger so that they could split into groups and cover more of the community.
