ANNUAL KERSHAW CHRISTMAS PARADE

& CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING CEREMONY

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 25TH, 2018

Best Attended Christmas Parade in 10-Years

If you weren’t at the Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting last Sunday afternoon y’all sure missed a phenomonal event!  The parade got underway with MC Mike Broughton announcing the start of the parade which was lead by police escort down Hampton Street.  The Andrew Jackson Band and Color Guard was a magnificent sight leading off the parade followed by the Grand Marshall, Annsley Vick, 2018 Miss Jr. High School America, Kallie Blackmon, 2018 NBHA 2D Teen World Champion, Lancaster Dixie Baseball 6U and 14U State Champions, Kershaw Fire Department and Auxiliary, Westville Fire Department, Beaver Creek Fire Department, Flat Creek Fire Department, Sparky the Fire Dog, Widow’s Sons, to name a few and Santa who was the last float down Hampton Street.

OceanaGold opened the Kershaw Depot with refreshments, ornament crafts and had the Polar Express movie showing on their tv screen.  The Polar Express Trackless Train that was to run from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. had mechanical issues and sadly was not in attendance.

Kershaw Heart & Soul Elves mingled among the crowd waiting for the parade gathering “What Matters Most” and will be using the information gathered on the community 'favorite' and 'least favorite' event in Kershaw to shape the future of our community.

Santa was at Town Hall in the Council Chambers to greet children after that parade while Bethany Westville Baptist Church handed out Krispy Kreme donuts and goodies made by the ladies of Team Church and Kershaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church were also available for the community.

This year Kershaw Heart & Soul brought back the Christmas Tree Lighting with additional activities which included invocation by Reverent Thomas Duncan, Belmont Baptist, and a Christmas message from Reverent Michael Owens, Sandhill Baptist, followed by performances from Andrew Jackson Middle School Band lead by Michelle Brown and Dr. Thomas Moncrief, Da’Rissa Izzard and Mt. Calvary Outreach Center Choir with announcements of the Home-Built Christmas Parade Float Contest – 3rd place went to Bethany Westville Baptist Church with Charlie Brown Christmas, 2nd Place Team Church with Fishers of Men and 1st place Oakridge Baptist Church with a Manger Scene.  Mayor, Mark Dorman and Council Members, Harvey Truesdale, Eddie Coates and Jody Connell lead the lighting of the Town’s 14’ Christmas Tree kicking off the Christmas Season.

And if you missed the snow at Town Hall you are in luck!  Christmas on Main, Monday, December 3rd from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Kershaw Heart & Soul will be reading Christmas Stories under the backdrop of snow!  Also – come out and hang an ornament with your wish for Kershaw on the Kershaw Heart & Soul Christmas Tree!

There is something special about every small town ~ Kershaw’s Christmas Parade is just one of many things that make Kershaw special.  The Town of Kershaw plans to continue the extended activities and Tree Lighting after the Christmas Parade next year!  Mark your calendars for the Sunday after Thanksgiving!
